Stable at Riverway


At 6.30pm Saturday18 December, the Official Opening Ceremony will see Townsville Mayor Cr Jenny Hill open North Queensland’s Christmas Festival, Stable on the Strand at Riverway. She will be joined on the Main Stage by Rev Anne Harley, President, Stable on the Strand. There will also be a welcome to country and presentation by indigenous performers including Pat Morgan, Normie Wales and the Wulgurukaba Walkabout.

With the move from Strand Park, everything this year at Riverway is new. Not to be missed are:

The Christmas Story:

The Christmas Story will come to life at 6.30pm each night with dozens of costumed actors participating as Roman Soldiers, Shepherds (with sheep), Three Wise Men (with camels) bringing us the Christmas story interactively.

The ever-popular Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus, look forward to greeting guests! There are opportunities for children to dress up as soldiers and shepherds.

The Bethlehem Puppet Theatre will be a favourite for all ages as they perform every half hour “The Bethlehemian Rhapsody”.

Annandale Christian College Stage starts 6pm:

6.30pm – Official opening by Mayor Jenny Hill followed by exciting presentations from a wide variety of multicultural singers & dancers, other local talent and featuring Brisbane based indigenous singer Joel Wiggins who performs nightly from Mon to Wed 7.30pm. Raintree Grove:

A welcoming ‘feel good’ area where there will be lots of activities to connect with our guests: story telling; craft activities; treasure hunts, live music and opportunities to share a message with those for whom Christmas is a lonely time. Families will love this area as they relax together.

Youth Hub:

A great area for teenagers featuring a Sports Arena, Lagoon Party and a Skate Park.

Food Fair:

Buy quality food at reasonable prices including the much-loved Greek Honey Puffs.

Free Sausage Sizzle & Free Bus rides:

Each night we are offering a free Sausage Sizzle & Bus Ride from the Upper Ross area to the event. (this is Stable’s way of reaching out to a segment of our community which is currently doing it‘tough’)
